Looking back...

So I started this blog two years ago and only posted three boring blogs so I deleted it all and going to give it another try with more interesting material, MY BABY BOY!! :) I will start by taking you back ten months, August 26, 2011.........when we found out we were going to be momma and daddy! I was just getting ready to start my last semester and busy student teaching sememster, and I had just quit my job at TAPS so I could student teach. Travis was working in Ardmore and it was the hottest summer on record. We found out (took the pee test) on a Friday afternoon. We were on cloud 9, we laughed, we cried and I don't think I had ever seen Travis so excited! We had told Emily and Jon that we would go out with the to play Bingo with them. Thats not a normal Friday night activity for us, by the way. I made Travis promise that he would not tell them or anyone else until we told my parents. So before we go to play Bingo we went to the gas station to get cash at an ATM. When Travis gets back in the car he confesses that he couldnt help himself, he had to tell someone the big news so he told the guy in line behind him at the ATM!!! I didnt care, I thought it was so cute that he was that excited. I had my first doctors appointment with Dr. Grafa when I was 8 weeks prego and had the first ultrasound at 12 weeks. Hearing his heartbeat for the first time was one of my favorite memories of all my pregnancy. I had a very great first 10 weeks or so and then started to feel a lttle nauseous in the morning. My main issue was nothing sounded good to eat. I never wanted to eat because nothing sounded good and a lot of things made me feel sick just thinking about it. Luckily, that only lasted for 5 or 6 weeks. When I was 18 weeks we found out we were having a boy. I was positive that he was going to be a girl. Everyone, except for Travis and his parents, thought he was a girl. Travis wanted a little boy so bad and I will never forget the look on his face when she showed us the little boy part. We decided on the boy name before we found out he was a boy. Benton is Travis' grandad's name and Travis' middle name. He grandad is VERY special to him and I love the name. David is my dad's name and one of the best men I know. I think it means a lot to both of these men that we named our baby after them. I had decided before I was ever prego that I wanted a sock monkey nursery because I love the red and browns. His nursery turned out so precious and it is exactly what I was hoping for. The rest of my pregnancy went by slowly but great. I slept a lot!!!!I didnt start to fell really uncomfortable until around 35 weeks. At that time I started to swell a whole lot! I could bearly get my flip flops on! I started to have weekly checkups at 36 weeks, at that time he told me that I was dialated to a 1 and that was good. I left that appointment soo excited. I thought that meant that I would progress fast or faster that I was expecting. Well... I didnt change for the next 4 weeks. I went to the doctor on my due date, May 1st, my blood pressure was very high and I still had not changed. He told me if I didnt go into labor before the following Monday he would induce my labor or I could go ahead and get induce the following day. Because my blood pressure was so high and I was past my due date, and I was totally done being pregnant, we decided that Benton would be born on May 3rd. He explained to me what would happen and what to expect and I remember leaving the office and calling Travis while freaking out and telling him I wish he would have been there because I couldnt remember a thing he told me! So we arrived at the hospital at 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, we went up to the labor and delivery floor and Travis rang the bell and told him that he was there to have a baby, they rang us in and looked at him and said you are going to be a handful arent you?? :) YUP! Thats my husband!
So now begins the labor and delivery story.....I will out all the gross stuff!
They began the cervidill(sp?) about 6 that afternoon, that is what softens my cervix. Dr. Grafa came by that afternoon and checked me and said I had dialated to a 2! Woo Hoo. 1 cm in a day, I am finally doing something. They offered me pain meds that night but I told them I didnt need them yet. The only painful thing was the stinkin' IV that they stuck in an extremely inconvient place in my hand. Travis went and got me Subway as my last meal! :) They nurses were great! About 10 that night she came in an gave me ice cream and a sleeping pill. The pill working and knocked me out until about 1 in the morning when I woke up with extreme pain!! I called the nurse and told her I was ready for those pain meds! They worked and I was able to go back to sleep. The only bad thing about the pain meds was that it was hocked up the IV so when I needed to get out of bed I had to drag the stand thingy to the bathroom and Travis was NOT waking up to help me. I have no idea how he slept that hard in that uncomfortable fold out chair. They woke me up about 5 in the morning to start the pitocin that is meant to bring on the contractions. Dr. Grafa came by about 7:30 and checked me and said I was at a 2 still but my cervix was 100% thinned which was the point of the cervidill. He also broke my water, that felt really weird! Travis' parents came by about 8 that morning to check on me and then my parents got there a little after that and we assured them that Benton was not coming until much later into the afternoon or night. Well... little did we know that we were so wrong! About 9:30 (i think, its all a blur) is when the real contractions actually started. I wasnt against getting an epidural but I wanted to make it as long as I could without it because I didnt want to be stuck in that bed all day without being able to move. Mom and Megan were in the room when I was really feeling the pain and I asked the nurse to give me somemore of the pain meds I had been getting during the night. She told me I couldnt have anymore for an hour!!! OMG! An hour? At that time that seemed like a million years. Mom was really encouraging me to the epidural because she could tell I was really hurting. I gave in and got it. It didnt hurt one bit but I could still feel every contraction! The contractions were very very close together so at about 11:30 the nurse checked me right after the epi and found out I was dialated to 10!! Woooo... what did you say?? 10? None of our family was even there except for mom, dad, Jared, and Megan because we knew this was going to be an all day event. Trav and dad started calling everyone so they could make it from Bonham and Denison before the big event. I wasnt even able to freak out because I could still feel everything! I finally got another dose in my epidural and then another. At last I was comfortable and dead from the waist down! She came in about 30 minutes after checking me and said she had just talked to Dr. Grafa and he wanted me to start pushing! OMG! Travis get your butt in here! I had no idea where he was but he wasnt right beside me holding my hand and telling me I was beautiful :) I am so glad my mom also stayed for the delivery! I started pushing about 12:30, I had no idea what to do at first and then the nurse told me to pretend like I was taking a huge poop! LOL! Needless to say, then I understood what to do. Pushing was hard but I had a good team and I didnt feel what was going on down there. I am so glad I got to have a vaginal birth because it was truly the most amazing experience of my life! When he came out they put him right on my chest and that was so amazing; he was so beautiful, not even wrinkled.
{End of labor and delivery story}
So we came home and thats when the true test of our parenting skills began. He is a super great baby! We have no idea what we are doing most of the time but he is just so go with the flow about everything. He really only fusses when he is hungry and gets his diaper changed, and photographed without his clothes on! Anywho, we are so in love with this little guy and all of a sudden our whole life revolves around him. I will post again about our happenings soon! :)
